Mazda issued TSB 05-002/19, later superseded by 05-005/20, covering 2016–2019 CX-3 models built before October 31, 2018. The issue: internal bearing damage tied to early transaxle case configuration.

Here’s how it shows up.

You drive it. Around 10 mph (16 km/h), a faint whine starts. By 30 mph, it’s obvious. By highway speed, it’s a steady, rising pitch that follows road speed exactly. You let off the gas — it’s still there. You shift gears — doesn’t matter. Engine RPM changes? Noise doesn’t care.

That’s output-speed related. That’s rotating hardware after the torque converter. And inside this FW6A-EL, that means bearings.

I’ve seen dozens of these. Early build units. You drop the pan and the fluid looks fine, then you catch a shimmer of metallic shavings. Fine stuff. Not chunks. Not carnage. Just enough to tell you the bearing surfaces are starting to go.
