P1810 or P1815 codes show up a lot with the pressure switch issue. That doesn’t mean the tranny is destroyed — just that the control system is having a bad day.

Bright red fluid is good. Brown fluid that smells burnt? That’s clutch material cooking inside the transmission.

When to Walk Away

Some cars are worth saving.

Some are ticking time bombs.

If you’re shopping for one of these Malibus, watch for:

  • Metal shavings in the pan
