Overview

Recall 11V595000 (GM 11348) – 2010–2011

Shift cable routing. Simple part. Big consequence. The cable can pop out of its bracket. The shifter says PARK. The transmission isn’t actually in PARK. The car rolls.

I’ve seen it. Customer swears they put it in PARK. They did. The indicator lied.

Fix is straightforward — inspection and securing the cable correctly. No rebuild required. But if it hasn’t been done, it’s a safety problem. Period.

Recall 13V097000 (GM 13053) – 2013

TCM calibration glitch. The transmission can slip itself into Sport mode logic when it shouldn’t. You lose engine braking. Braking distance changes. Drivers think the brakes are bad. They aren’t. It’s programming.

Recall 14V212000 (GM 14132) – 2013 3.6L

This one caused the infamous 3–4 second hesitation. You step on it. Nothing. Then it goes. Not a good feeling pulling into traffic.

Reflash fixes it. If it’s been done.

Every 2013 gets a VIN check. No excuses.

Valve Body Wear – The Real Story

Bulletin 18-NA-358 exists for a reason. I’ve replaced more 6T70 and 6T75 valve bodies than I can count.

What happens? The bores wear. The valves start leaking internally. Fluid pressure bleeds off where it shouldn’t. Then you get:

  • 2–3 flare
  • 3–2 bang downshift
  • Launch shudder
  • Lazy engagement into DRIVE

It usually starts around 80,000–140,000 Miles. That’s 128,000–225,000 km for the metric crowd.

Owners ignore it. Fluid gets darker. Shavings start floating around. Then the clutches start lunching gears. And now it’s not a valve body job anymore. It’s a full tranny rebuild.

Catch it early and you’re in the $1,500 range. Let it go and it becomes a $5,000 problem fast.

2013 Transmission Case Casting Issue

Service Update 13077. Limited batch. Some 2013 units had casting irregularities at the torque converter housing sealing surface.

Fluid seep. Slow at first. Then worse. If it matched the affected casting codes, the entire transmission got replaced.

I don’t see many of these anymore. Most were handled under warranty years ago. But if you find a 2013 with a weird case seam leak, you look twice.

Rear Drive Module (AWD Models)

The AWD system uses a wet clutch pack in the RDM. It’s electronically controlled. Over-engineered for what most owners think is “just AWD.”

Here’s what I see in real service bays:

  • DTC C0407 – pump motor slip

The fill procedure matters. A lot. You don’t just dump fluid in. You fill through the vent with the cover plug installed. Get it wrong and you create your own problem.

Most AWD complaints show up between 60,000–120,000 Miles (96,000–193,000 km). Almost always fluid-related. Owners assume it’s sealed for life. That’s a joke.

Fresh fluid and filter often fix it. Ignore it and the clutch pack overheats, glazes, and then you’re shopping for an RDM assembly.

Shift Cable Issue – Not a Tranny Failure

People come in saying, “My transmission failed.” No. The cable slipped.

It’s mechanical. It’s external. It’s dangerous if ignored. But it’s not internal damage.

2012 tends to be the quiet year. 2013 needs paperwork confirmation. Later years just need maintenance.

Road test it hot. Around 195°F (90°C). Cold tests lie. Heat exposes weakness.
